Red Wine
Acquired by the Français-Monier family in 1809, this honey-coloured property is one of few on the Massif d'Uchaux (east of Mont Ventoux, north of Orange) with deep underground cellars. Much has been made of this attractively-vaulted feature, which, like the rest of the place, is well-maintained and luxurious. A striking contrast, at times, with the stony, sandy terroir outside: Mistral winds fairly rip through surrounding vines, forests and scrubland, and the sun beats down harshly in summer. Sturdy wines emerge from such unforgiving terroir. This Grenache / Syrah blend, with its ripe red fruit and hint of smoky richness, is perfect with bacon-enhanced dishes.
