Unhelpfully arid Patagonia has only recently proven inviting for winemakers seeking new horizons, thanks to enabling viticultural technologies. Lucas Nemesio brought advanced irrigation and fertilisation techniques to bear on this wildly beautiful area, achieving harmonious integration between the environment and the imperatives of production. Between 2001 and 2003, 127 hectares of close-planted vineyards were installed in the San Patricio del Chañar Valley in Neuquén Province between 37.5 and 40.5° south. With an average temperature of 18°C, and 2000 sunlit hours, ripening conditions are ideal. Discreet to the point of invisibility, the underground winery is all gleaming and gravity-fed.
