In 1902 Colonel William Alexander Gordon, decided against returning to England after the war. Instead he purchased the "De Goede Sukser" wine farm, renaming it Warwick Estate in tribute to his regiment. Sixty years later Stan Ratcliffe was researching the Terroir of the area, in search of the best land to grow grapes. He quickly realised the potential of the land and purchased the estate with his wife Norma. Cabernet vines were planted and this variety remains at the heart of their wines. The Three Cape Ladies is a blend, of which Cabernet is the main component. The addition of Pinotage adds soft, sweet fruit whilst the remaining varieties enhance the spicy hints. The 2006 vintage was one of the longest in recent history. The fruit slowly ripened and this has encouraged juicy tannins, exceptional colour and richness in the finish. The beautifully ripe fruit was matured for 32 months in French Oak, only a third being new barrels, allowing delicate sandalwood aromas to develop. a complex
