According to Robert Parker, this was one of his 'sleepers of the vintage'. When we originally tasted (and bought) their 2005 vintage, we were convinced that this was one of the most improved châteaux. As neither of us (AJM and RC) is a huge St Estèphe fan, it was a revelation ? yet again, to compare tasting notes after the event, to find that Les Ormes de Pez scored feverishly well. Slowly we are becoming more accepting of this northern community. My notes suggest this is 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, leaving a tantalising 2% unclaimed somewhere. Spectacular, deep purple colour with big, powerful cassis notes and classic St Estèphe tannic structure. Big, quite hot, velvety and smooth. This has once again earned its spurs. Drink from 2020-2025.
