The 2008 vintage was looking challenging as it had rained for most of August and through to mid September. When the rains stopped a strong wind from the north blew for many days. This had the simple effect of holding up a giant hair-dryer to the vines, the grapes dried, rotten ones fell to the ground and what remained was healthy. Despite nature's triage, the team at Rousseau selected bunches in the vineyards and then selected berries in the cellar. Up to 40% was cast aside. Malic acidity which normally ripens out in August remained in the grapes and caused unusually long malolactic fermentations in the cellars. Tasting in the cellars in November 2009, the results of all this hard work were impressive with notable concentration in all wines. This is why this is such a great producer - attention to detail. Drink from 2014 up to 2018.
