  Since 2009 Dominique Lafon has rented seven hectares of vines from the Château de Vire. The site of this vineyard is very well placed on the southern slopes behind. Most of the vines in this patch are at least 75 years old. 2009 is a very well balanced year and is very lucky to be so. After a patchy start to the first half of the season with rain ever present and threatening, along came a blistering August that brought on the ripening of the grapes. If September had turned out hot and sunny we might have had another 2003 on our hands but cool cloudy weather reignedin any excess. The result is a generously flavoured vintage but with sufficient acidity to balance. Will benefit from 18 months bottle age. Drink from 2011 to 2016.
