Situated in the Cima-Corgo sub region of the Douro valley, a region that enjoys a longer growing season than many other areas of the Douro, this historic Quinta dates back to the 17th century. The 18 hectares of vines and 5 hectares of olive trees, are run by winemaker and manager, Jorge Serôdio Borges for its Belgian owner, who encourages the continued use of traditional methods alongside modern techniques. In 2008, owner Dieter Borhmann bought a nearby Quinta, thus adding a further 20 hectares of vines for Jorge to increase and enhance the production of Passodouro. The main winery building was completely refurbished with new stainless steel vats and equipment brought in to stand alongside the old lagars ? shallow ones for grape-stomping and 6000 litre granite ones for fermentation. Bottled unfiltered, this has lifted figs and spice aromas, and dense prune and blackcurrant flavours, with power and generosity.
