    Light gold in colour, with a perfumed, spicy nose, the 2006 Bussiador has intense mineral notes, together with tropical fruit and hints of buttery vanilla. On the palate it has excellent concentration, good structure and a balance of ripe, rich fruit and an elegant acidity. The main characteristic of the 2006 vintage is minerality, which allows the wine to mature for many years. The Conterno estate covers 25 hectares of vineyard, primarily on the hill of Bussia in Monforte d'Alba in the heart of the Barolo zone. They are situated at 100m above sea level, on soils comprising calcareous marl and layers of sand. The Chardonnay is grown on an area of about 3 hectares which is cultivated organically. Only 8000 bottles are made, such is the severity of their vineyard and cellar selection. Grapes were hand harvested in the first two weeks of September and were then fermented for four days in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, at 16-18ºC. The must was then racked into 100% new Allier, Tranche & Vosges oak barriques, to complete its fermentation. The wine was left on its lees in barriques for 4 months, then racked and matured in the same new oak barriques for maximum of 12 months. This wine was then matured in bottle for a year before its release. Only 6800 bottles were produced in 2006.
