    Red Wine
A bright, youthful colour with medium intensity gives way to a pure, lifted perfume that combines cherries and plums. On the palate, the wine has a good depth of supple, sinewy fruit that is beautifully balanced and long on finish. Grapes for this wine are grown in the Ormeggio, Castagnola and Belvedere vineyards in Lessona in the Orolungo region. The altitude is between 290-350m above sea level. Soils are sandy and acidic (pH 4.5 - 5.5) and rich in minerals and trace elements including iron, manganese, aluminium and zinc. Some fruit is also sourced from the 35 year old Madonna degli Angeli vineyard in Brusnengo in the Forte region which is included in the Bramaterra D.O.C. The harvest was done by hand with the Vespolina and Croatina grapes picked in the last ten days of September and the Nebbiolo slightly later in the middle of October. The wines are vinified in the old, gravity-fed cellar which dates back to the beginning of the 19th Century. Fermentation took place in squat, open upright oak casks. Maceration lasted 3-4 weeks with regular punching down of the cap. The wine was aged in a mixture of new and old barriques (225L), puncheons (500L) and 15 hectolitre casks for 18 months. Grape varieties: 65% Nebbiolo, 20% Vespolina, 15% Croatina.
